The Trails:

Vernazza to Monterosso (2miles) – with its winding narrow paths, steep ascents and descents and sudden drops on one side, this is one of the toughest hikes but well worth the effort for the views.

Corniglia to Manarola (3.4miles) –  Trail 7a or Porcina, meanders through the little town Volstra, with a steep of set of steps heading up, making this trail a bit harder than the following trails. But after these steps you will be rewarded with the most amazing panoramic views of Corniglia.

Via Della’amore (0.6miles) – The Way of Love is a short, easy stroll, as its path is well paved for easy access and walking. It is well known for its very romantic atmosphere (hence the name of the trail) and is the easiest trail on Cinque Terre.

Rigomaggiore Ring (2.2 miles) – Take this ring trail that will lead you back to Rigomaggiore in a clockwise direction – enjoying the Sanctuary of Montenero along the way.

The Blue Path (7.5miles) – This trail encompasses all five villages, and is the longest of all the trails.

Top Five tips for Hiking the Cinque Terre Trails:

One: Hike it

No matter what level hiker you are the best way to see this stunning coastline is by hiking – so just do it.

Two: Hire a Guide

Though it is a rather simple and well charted hike, rather get yourself a guide and see this great coast and five fishing villages as only a local will be able to show you.

Three: Avoid Peak Season

Rather avoid the high season when the little towns are packed full of tourists. Visit in April or May and have space to hike and enjoy the views at your own pace and in peace.

Four: Pack Water

A simple rule – take water, but this rule is important for a reason as you do not want to get in trouble and be carried off this beautiful trail (and stock up before you hit this area as the prices are steep in the little towns). And while we are talking safety stock up and use sunscreen liberally, another basic rule for hiking.

Five: Capture Memories

While hiking the chance to take many stunning pictures will arise, so do not forget your camera to capture the most amazing views as you go.
